I’m no longer procrastinating. In fact I’m getting more done– and in a happier frame of mind– than I have for a long time. There are a number of things contributing to this burst of productivity– some tools and techniques which I’ll share with you in my resource list at the end of this post– but the main reason is one that should really be at the top of my list of reasons why we procrastinate: I was trying to force myself onto the wrong path. My original idea for this site required me to do a lot of the things I’m really bad at and didn’t allow enough scope for the things I’m really good at. Now I’ve got some better ideas — ones that let me focus on my strengths. So before you start cursing yourself for ‘not being able to get anything done’, consider the possibility that your ‘procrastinating’ is keeping you from charging off in the wrong direction– and giving you the time and space to find the right one.

Finding Your Own Path

Free:

Download Barbara Sher’s wonderful first book, Wishcraft at wishcraft.com. Filled with useful tools, like the backward planning flow chart, and exercises like ‘style search’ and the ‘ideal day’ to help you find and develop your best assets.

Amazon links: (Buying through these links gives me a small percentage of your purchase price. The cost to you is the same as if you bought it directly from the Amazon.)

Wishcraft in book form: Wishcraft: How to Get What You Really Want

Barbara Sher’s most recent book, aimed at people with multiple interests: Refuse to Choose!: Use All of Your Interests, Passions, and Hobbies to Create the Life and Career of Your Dreams

And here are some other books by Barbara Sher.

Getting Organized

Here’s the book I’ve used with the most success:

I also recommend David Allen’s books.

Some Free Resources for Doing Business Online

I’ve been reading Shel Horowitz’s newsletters on frugal fun and frugal marketing for years. He switched to blog format recently, so now you can get the same information without signing up.

Paul Myers couldn’t be different from Shel Horowitz in style, but they share a deep commitment to business integrity. Myers is the man to go to for practical, nuts and bolts information.

The Warrior Forum is a great online forum for internet marketers. Sometimes the hype gets a little thick, but lots of useful information and helpful people.

Marketing Sherpa has quite a lot of free resources, although much of its content is now available only to members.
